What Does the Future of WPP Look Like Without Sorrell?

This month, the advertising world was rocked by Sir Martin Sorrell's departure from WPP amidst allegations of improper conduct. Sorrell is the advertising giant’s founding CEO and the only person to hold the title since 1986. What does the Holding Company's future look like without Sorrell at the helm? There has been a significant amount of speculation about who might succeed him in the C-Suite, with suggestions ranging from a media expert to a financial outsider. According to R3's Greg Paull, if the next WPP chief does come from the agency world, he or she would need to partner closely with its CFO Paul Richardson “to come close to matching the dynamic of Sorrell. There has also been a question of whether or not the holding company will survive his departure, with several M&A analyst suggesting that the firm's PR operation is ripe for acquisition.
